Valentine’s Day Egg in a Hole with Heart-Shaped Sausage

Directions

  1. In a small skillet, heat over medium high. From the bulk sausage, make two heart shapes and place them in the pan. Cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until cooked through.

  2. Meanwhile, cut out heart shapes from the bread slices. Butter each side of the bread and the heart cut-outs, and place bread, butter side down, in a large skillet. Repeat for second slice of bread and the heart cut-outs.

  3. Turn burner on allow bread to grill for a couple minutes, buttering the top of the bread while it cooks. Crack an egg and place it in the whole, filling the heart cut-out. Add salt and pepper to taste. Allow to set for 1-2 minutes, then flip bread (and egg) over. Allow second side to toast and egg to cook to desired doneness, then remove from pan.

  4. Plate one slice of bread and egg (covering egg with the toasted heart cut-out), and arrange heart sausage alongside. If desired draw ketchup or Sriracha hearts on plate for a festive touch. Enjoy!
