Quinoa or Brown Rice Prep
Note: Quinoa or Rice can be flavored if desired. A mixture of cumin, paprika and oregano is a great addition for a Mexican style Meal, Italian Herbs and Garlic would be great to add to an Italian Style Meal, etc. Fresh Herbs can also be added after cooking, if using immediately.
Ingredients
1 cup quinoa or brown rice
2 cup water, vegetable or chicken broth
Salt to taste
Directions
If preparing quinoa: Rinse quinoa well, in a fine sieve, to remove any dust particles. Let drain well. Combine quinoa with water or broth in a medium saucepan with a lid, and bring up to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook for 20 minutes or until liquid is evaporated. Remove from heat and allow to sit for an additional 10-15 minutes or until steamed and fluffy. Use immediately or spread on a baking sheet and cool before packaging.
If preparing brown rice. Rinse well, as above. Let drain well, then combine brown rice with broth or water in a medium saucepan with a lid. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cook for 40-45 minutes, or until liquid is evaporated. Remove from heat and allow to sit for an additional 10-15 minutes or until steamed and fluffy. Use immediately or spread on a baking sheet to cool before packaging.
